Hans-Leo Teulings on Movement Side Effects of Schizophrenia Medication
Dr. Hans-Leo Teulings received a MS in experimental physics and biophysics and a PhD in experimental psychology. During more than 30 years he contributed to many grant applications and research papers on handwriting movement analysis. Since 1997 he is CEO of NeuroScript®. www.NeuroScript.net offers MovAlyzeR® handwriting analysis software which is used worldwide for scientific research and professional application.
Handwriting analysis is a sensitive measure to automatically detect movement side effects due to overmedication in schizophrenia. Conventional measures still in use by psychiatrists and pharmaceuticals show no significant side effects. Overmedication may be causing permanent brain damage in 20% of the schizophrenia patients.
Figure 1. Conventional methods (left panels) show no significant (ns) dosage (top panels; 0-6 mg/d) or medication type (bottom panels: Aripiprazole, Risperidone, Olanzapine/Quetiapine) effects in schizophrenia patients but the MovAlyzeR handwriting analysis method does show significant (p<0.0001) effects (right panels).
