Shifton for shift scheduling

Hi! We recently started discussing the implementation of Shifton for shift scheduling in our company, and I have a few questions. Does anyone already use this system? How effective is it for automated scheduling, or does human intervention often need to be involved to avoid errors? I have heard that it helps with scheduling, but how does it work in practice when you need to take into account individual employee preferences, illnesses, or urgent replacements? Should you rely on it completely, or is it better to use it as an additional tool? I would love to hear your experiences!

We started using https://shifton.com/shift-scheduling about half a year ago and are actually quite happy with the results. But of course, it all depends on what exactly is required from the automatic employee schedule generator. If we talk about automatic shift planning, it certainly makes life easier, especially considering that in large companies, manually creating an optimal schedule is a real nightmare. The system allows you to take into account the availability of employees, their working hours, types of shifts, and even such things as the need for breaks or fatigue. This is a great help for regular plans, but for taking into account unpredictable situations, such as illnesses or urgent replacements, it may not cope as well as a person can. For example, if someone gets sick, the system will suggest replacements, but it does not always “understand” the importance of replacing this particular person in the team - here the HR manager or supervisor needs to intervene to take into account all the nuances.

I have also been working with Shifton for some time and, overall, my impressions are positive. Of course, as was said above, the system does make planning easier, but it is important not to forget that automation is always a compromise. Programs can only take into account pre-set parameters, and they cannot always take into account all human factors. I think a combination of automatic planning with elements of human control is the best option at the moment.
